EYE, I, 👁️

Well well well, yet again, I’ve strayed away from writing for all too long, and I’ll come right out and say it, I’ve missed this!

K8s/BRAIN began as a silly little outlet for me to express all those aspects of life that I find so incredible that they just need to be documented, and for anyone who felt the same way. This past year was filled with so many shifts, unprecedented moments, up’s and especially down’s, laughter and tears, and brought me back to the type of person I wanted to be when I set out for NYC only three years ago.

Awhile back, I purchased a short-entry book called It by Alexa Chung — a cool girl that even the coolest girls can’t catch up to. For those who know, I have a strange intrigue with eyes, but not in the way you would think. I’ve always held that eyes are the gateway to the mind, the soul, the core of a person, and with that, they are the most beautiful entities in my mind. It’s with eyes that you understand everything in a person based on immediate expression, whether they look directly at you or away, whether they are joyful or solemn, whether they are present or distant. The eyes hold nearly everything a person knows about the world. Long story short, the book had a small snapshot of a blue-toned eye cast on a light pink, fabric cover with the word “It” pressed gently into the surface. I bought it just because that eye told a story, and because I had a some sort of gut feeling the book would have some effect on me in that moment. I was right, that book solidified that what I dreamed of doing with my future wasn’t so far out of reach after all, and achieving endeavors in the creative industry stemmed from within a person’s wheelhouse. Chung lives her life so freely, so candidly and so creatively, she likes what she likes and documents them all through a series of excerpts, photos, and anecdotes. She did so because she wanted to and she felt that what she had to share was worthwhile. She presented her creativity, her ideas, her passions through the projects that made a life of work in fashion so remarkable. It lead me stirring about all the little moments that chronicled the story of my life and my work. It was like an inside scoop to how Alexa sees the world around her, through her shimmery, eye-shadowed eyes.

This blog entry is nothing more than a note from me to anyone reading my little tangents — to those I’m so thankful for in supporting this ongoing project. In the beginning, I designed this site in a way that allowed me to tap into anything that struck my fancy. I find myself diving into certain facets of life that stray so far away from my other interests, but deserve just as much recognition as the rest. This is for that. So if you are here for the random updates, insights, etc. — welcome!

From this point going forward, this will continue to be a space for anything and everything that I feel other may resonate with those who continue to read these pieces. There will be lots if personal yap, spotlights of my various takes on places and things, and forms of advice I may be able to provide with my limited experience.

And for those of you who need a little creative spark plug moment, I highly highly recommend Chung’s book above (click image for link). If anything, at least it is a beautifully crafted book full of silly moments and style inspo (I sure do need it in these frigid NYC months!)
