PAINTINGS

PAINTINGS,

SHOULD I SAY IT ONCE MORE?

I spent probably a good week in middle school trying to figure out what my signature would look like. It was in the weeks following the dreaded cursive lessons, that I felt ready to craft a signature of my own. I wanted something that felt “un-copy-able,” like something you would see at the bottom of a painting and would shift your gaze to stare at rather than gazing into the painting itself. There were some drafts, some very chicken-scratch looking cursive letters, but finally, after a few rounds of curating, I did it. I had my own signature, the signature that would be my emblem, my special touch to any piece I completed. I felt a little closer to being a “real artist.”

My favorite class in high school was my freshman year Studio Art I class. I say this because even to this day, I have never been as excited to take a class then I was with this one. I vividly remember going home, sitting to work on homework, then realizing that I would have another day to work on my various art projects. The feeling was almost across the lines of feeling a sense of purpose??? Sorry if that may seem like a melodramatic way of viewing an high school introductory art course, but I couldn’t knock my genuine excitement and energy I put into that class.

Sadly, I am not a 15-year-old freshman in my studio art class, but that doesn’t mean I don’t get the same jittery feeling when I paint a new piece, or sketch a new drawing for my rather private collection.

My closet in my family home is now covered in my artistic endeavors from those days of high school art class. Acting as my very private, personal gallery. And as much as I love to take a walk down memory lane in my lonesome, I thought why not showcase those pieces that once made me feel emotion, other than utter stress, towards a class. So, if you read that long-winded, dramatic little tangent, welcome to my painting archive. Here you can find all the funky little doodles and paintings that I sometimes spend time here and there crafting. Enjoy!
